Cash on Delivery (COD) is the safest way to shop online in Bangladesh, because you pay only after the parcel reaches your hands. To stay fully safe, buy from shops that show a real address and phone number, let you check the product before paying, and have a clear return policy. This guide explains how COD works, how to spot a trustworthy shop, and what to do if something goes wrong.
What is Cash on Delivery?
Cash on Delivery means you place an order online but pay the delivery person in cash (or by bKash, Nagad or Rocket) when the parcel arrives. You do not pay anything in advance, so if the product never arrives, you lose nothing.
Most online shops in Bangladesh use courier companies such as Steadfast, Pathao or RedX. The courier collects your payment and sends it to the shop.
How a COD order works, step by step

- You choose a product on the website and place the order with your name, phone number and full address.
- The shop calls or messages you to confirm the order.
- The shop packs the product and hands it to a courier.
- The courier delivers it, usually in 1–2 days inside Dhaka and 2–4 days in other districts.
- You check the parcel in front of the delivery person, then pay the product price and delivery charge.
7 signs of a trustworthy online shop

- A real business address and a working phone or WhatsApp number on the website.
- Real product photos, not only edited catalogue images.
- Clear prices with the delivery charge shown before you order.
- A written return and exchange policy (for example, 7 days for unused clothing).
- An order confirmation call or message before dispatch.
- Active Facebook and Instagram pages with real customer comments.
- A tracking number or courier name you can check.
Can I open the parcel before paying?
Yes, at good shops you can. Ask the delivery person to wait while you open the parcel and check the size, colour and condition. If the product is wrong or damaged, you can refuse it and usually pay only the delivery charge, or nothing if the mistake was the shop’s.
Some couriers do not allow opening by default, so ask the shop before ordering. At AVENRO, you can check your parcel in front of the delivery person before paying.

Common COD mistakes to avoid
- Paying an advance through bKash to an unknown page “to confirm the order”.
- Giving an incomplete address, which delays delivery.
- Accepting a parcel without checking it.
- Ordering from pages with no address, no reviews and only stock photos.
What if the product is wrong or damaged?
Contact the shop within 48 hours with your order number and clear photos of the product and packaging. A reliable shop will replace it or arrange an exchange. Keep the tags and packaging until you are sure you are happy with the product.
